This single-storey residence consists of large rectilinear white volumes that are wrapped with an external curved wall that swoops around the home like a warm familiar embrace. The earthy-toned surround emerges gracefully from the landscape delineating between the inner and external spaces.
A small circular courtyard invites the visitor before the main living area which sits between the two garden spaces connected by a gravel pathway crossing through the living room interior blurring the boundaries of the inside and outside spaces.
A horizontal slab hovers seemingly effortlessly above the curved wall allowing both natural light to beam into the internal spaces as well as external views towards the sky from the main seating area. A double-height space with a faceted ceiling is also bringing natural light to the heart of the home which also operates passively as a bioclimatic solar chimney for natural ventilation of the interior.
While the house design has a clearly contemporary style it pays homage to a legacy of what came before in the subtle mid-century lines as well as the natural materials of stone and wood enriching and warming the living areas.
